Sap is a river that connects the Tonle Sap River into the Mekong and Bassac where heated hall. The river has a length of about 100 km.. River crossing Pursat, Kampong Chhnang Province and Phnom Penh.
Sap is a freshwater wetlands that are most important in Southeast Asia covering an area of 250,000 - 300,000 ha. in the summer and have a larger scope than 5-6 times in the rainy season. wetlands system is a source of supply of freshwater fisheries in the world and the ecological system important to help other species biodiversity much more in the world. Although the lake to help support biodiversity and many people also happen pressure and multiple threats occur in the Tonle Sap lake. biodiversity in the Tonle Sap lake livelihood support People living around a quarter of the population live in 5 provinces around the lake (about 2.9 million people) and nutritious supply of protein to the population up 70% of total nutrition. The lake is a source of shelter for providing food for fish, where fish eggs and fertilization, and then travel to Mekong river or canal, as well as water reservoirs for the dry season and for detoxification seawater flowing Come and help the conservation of mangrove forests in the Mekong Delta region as well. So it is a point significant environmental sense in the world.
